H.A.P.P.y

It’s been about 2 weeks since I’ve had the best slice of pizza I’ve ever tasted. Seriously, I’m not exaggerating. It was around brunch time in New Orleans and after visiting multiple times , I wanted to venture outside of the French Quarter. Most people would want seafood or brunch food, not me. I was in the mood for pizza. A quick search led me to Slice Pizzeria.

49FB2322-8B07-4381-B1CE-D02B4FCD4A09Slice is located at 1513 St. Charles Ave, about 2 miles away from The Quarter. I walked in and sat at the bar. The bartender, must have read my mind because he immediately let me know the drink specials. I ordered a mimosa. He looked puzzled when he heard my beverage choice.  After a quick chat, I was persuaded to try the Bloody Mary. I have to be honest, before today I’ve never had one. I am not a tomato juice fan, but I enjoy tomato soup and tomato sauces. He let me try a shot of the “juice” and the vodka. Well, as of today, I’m a Bloody Mary lover.

DDFBEED7-BB86-435B-B064-E597B500E2B1Their Bloody Mary’s aren’t made with tomato juice either, they use their pizza sauce. This changed the consistency and I enjoyed it a lot . The vodka infused with celery, peppercorns, and all the other goodness, just took the drink up another notch.

When it comes to pizza, my favorite toppings are bacon, pineapple and green pepper. It can’t get any better than that, right? Wrong! After looking at Slice’s menu I decided to try one of their Signature Slices. I opted for the H.A.A.P.

0F35C7F1-4A37-4635-B37C-C731C3F5CB2CThe H.A.P.P. is topped with Ham, arugula, provolone, and pepper jelly. It’s also garnished with diced tomatoes. At first bite, I knew I made the right choice. I even did a lil happy dance. The crust was light and crispy, perfect sauce to crust ratio, hot, cheesy and the pepper jelly topped it off with the right sweet and savory combo. My palate was truly pleased.

The bartender conversed with me and even recommended a tattoo shop and that I check out the Hot 8 Brass Band at The Howlin’Wolf. I listened to his suggestion and had an amazing time dancing to the band and singing Aretha Franklin songs during intermission. I see why the band is Grammy nominated because it was truly a great time.
