During my teenage years I was raised by my father. When someone would say or do something stupid, he’d call them a cunt. Just when you thought you were called a p*ssy, he’d explain that you Can’t Understand Normal Thinking(see what he did there.) I always thought this was hilarious.
I thought about the whole “normal thinking” thing today while I enjoyed lunch at MOD Pizza. If you’re not familiar with MOD it’s like Subway where you can eat fresh, but you can also have it your way like BK. I ordered the MOD size with red sauce, garlic, mozzarella, Asiago, pineapples, bacon, red onions and rosemary. It was delightful and light with fresh ingredients. I’m big on the combinations of flavors and they have mastered the art of pizza making.I don’t know why I waited so long to try them.
While sitting at a 4 seater table, a few younger girls asked could they sit with me “Of course,” I replied. As I got up to grab a to-go box one complimented me on my headwrap and shorts. “I love your natural look and the confidence you evoke, I could never wear anything like that.” I didn’t understand why she couldn’t, so I asked. She went on to explain not being comfortable with her body type and I was like, “but I’m bigger than you.” At this point she said the phrase that I hate “but you’re cute for a big girl.”
The whole convo caught me off guard because I was just chatting with a friend about this type of foolishness. I know one thing, that mindset shoudn’t be “normal.” Confidence does not come in a size, age, shape or color. It is merely an attitude. To quote Demi Lovato who was hospitalized this week, “What’s wrong with being confident?”
